What is email warmup and why does it matter?

Email warmup is the process of gradually increasing your sending volume from a new or inactive mailbox to build sender reputation with inbox providers like Gmail and Outlook. ISPs track every sending domain - a brand-new address that immediately sends hundreds of emails looks identical to a spam operation. Warmup works by sending small numbers of real emails that get opened, replied to, and archived, signaling to ISPs that your domain is a legitimate sender. Without warmup, cold email campaigns from new domains typically land in spam.
